Cataracts

Cataracts are a common ocular condition in which the lens inside of the eye becomes clouded.  Cataracts are more common as age increases and are known to be related to exposure to UV light from the sun.  Wearing sunglasses starting at a young age has been shown to help prevent cataracts.  Cataracts can also be caused by some medications and systemic medical conditions.  Symptoms of cataracts include blurred vision even with optimal glasses prescription, increased glare at night time, and decreasing night vision.  Optic Gallery Summerlin offers cataract evaluations as part of our comprehensive eye exam.  This exam would include dilation of the eyes with careful examination of the lens.  Dr. Jordan and Dr. Radtke have extensive experience in cataract diagnosis and management.  They commonly provide cataract pre-op and post-op evaluations to patients undergoing cataract surgery.  Our doctors will advise you on options for treatment of cataracts as part of your exam.  Some patients may have mild cataracts which require annual eye exams to monitor them, while some patients may require cataract surgery.  Call our office today to schedule your comprehensive eye exam including cataract evaluation.

Keratoconus Treatment

Orthokeratology at Optic Gallery Summerlin NVKeratoconus is a progressive disease of the cornea in which the cornea gets steeper and thinner over time.  Patients with Keratoconus can have extremely high amounts of near sightedness and astigmatism.   Usually these patients have trouble achieving 20/20 vision through their glasses.  Many patients can achieve better vision with the use of specialty contact lenses that can be precisely fit to their eyes by the doctor.Optic Gallery Summerlin explains Normal Cornea - Keratoconus

Dr. Jordan has extensive experience with Keratoconus and is well versed in all of the latest Keratoconus contact lens designs including rigid (hard) contact lenses, hybrid contact lenses such as Synergeyes, and larger scleral contact lenses.  Dr. Jordan commonly receives referrals from other doctors to provide specialty contact lens services.

He is available for second opinions to troubleshoot problems with past lenses, or to advise patients on possible surgical options such as corneal collagen cross linking, Intacs ring implants, and corneal transplants.  Certain insurance companies, such as VSP, consider Keratoconus contact lens fitting and Keratoconus lenses “medically necessary” in which case they provide benefits for these services and materials.  Contact our office today to schedule a Keratoconus contact lens fitting today.

Contact Lenses

Contact lense applicationThe doctors at Optic Gallery Summerlin prescribe a vast array of contact lenses including daily disposable contacts, contacts for astigmatism, eye color changing contact lenses, and even multifocal contacts specifically designed for reading.

Daily disposable contact lenses are quickly becoming one of the most popular contact lenses available due to their unprecedented convenience, comfort, and cleanliness.  Daily disposable contact lenses are specially designed to be thrown away after a single use.  This cuts down on end of the day contact lens maintenance time, and nearly eliminates the need for contact lens solutions and cases.  These lenses are ideal for patients with busy schedules, for new lens wearers who more commonly rip and tear lenses, and they are a must have for patients who may have less than ideal hygiene habits.   Contacts for astigmatism provide a clearer image for patients with astigmatism by incorporating this prescription into their contact lenses.  These lenses are available in a variety of brands including Biofinity, Air Optix, and Purevision 2 among others.  If you have uncorrected astigmatism and are looking for clearer vision, visit one of our doctors for a contact lens evaluation today.

Color changing contact lenses work with the natural color of your eyes to add a fun twist to your look.  Our office stocks a wide variety of color contact lens trials for you to try today.  Color contact lenses can be prescribed with and without a prescription depending on your needs.  A contact lens fitting and prescription are always required when purchasing color contacts.

Multifocal contact lenses have come a long way in recent years, now offering vision at distance, intermediate, and near.  These lenses have given our patients the opportunity to free themselves from reading glasses using a comfortable soft contact lens.  Drs. Jordan and Radtke have extensive experience in fitting these lenses or trouble-shooting problems with your current lenses.

Prescription Eye Glasses

Our office offers a wide variety of prescription lenses to fit your prescription needs including state of the art digital progressive lenses, polarized lensed, high index lenses, Transitions, and many more.  Digital progressive lenses are customized lenses which are made specifically for you based on your prescription, subtle differences in facial features, and the frame you select.  Digital lenses provide a crisper, clearer image while providing the widest field of vision available in progressive lens designs.  Polarized lenses for sunglasses remove reflections and provide a sharper image than you would find in a traditional tinted sunglass lens.  High index lenses, also known as ultra thin and lite lenses, are suggested for patients with higher prescriptions and those who are looking for the thinnest and lightest lens possible.  Transitions lenses are lenses which turn dark when exposed to UV light from the sun.  They make for a great universal pair of glasses which can also serve as sunglasses or as a supplement to a separate sunglass lens.  Our expert opticians can make recommendations on these and other products based on your visual needs.  Please stop by our office or call one of our opticians for more information on these or any of our other products.

Optometry

Dr. Wess Jordan performing an Eye ExamAn optometrist is commonly the primary eye care provider for many patients.  Optometrists are required to complete a 4 year undergraduate degree along with 4 years at an accredited optometry school.  They are required to complete a national board examination in order to graduate.  Upon completion of the optometry program, an optometrist receives a Doctorate of Optometry degree.  Optometrists, including the doctors at Optic Gallery Summerlin, perform routine pediatric and adult eye exams.  They also perform medical eye examinations, including dilation of the eyes when necessary, for pink eye, dry eye, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and many other eye conditions.  Optometrists are able to write prescriptions for glasses and contacts, along with many medications including antibiotics for pink eye, allergy drops, glaucoma drops, dry eye treatments, and many more.  An optometrist usually does not perform major surgeries, although they can perform many in office procedures such as removal of debris (foreign bodies) from the eye.

Commonly, optometrists work alongside opticians to provide the best experience possible.  An optician is well educated in the fitting of glasses and lenses.  They have extensive knowledge in eyeglass frames, lens materials, and other optical products.  The opticians at Optic Gallery Summerlin are some of the most highly trained in the city.  They can provide suggestions on what eyeglass frames or materials are best for you based on your facial features and glasses prescriptions.

Contact Lens Examinations

Contact lenses are a great option for many patients.  In fact, some patients actually see better in contact lenses.  Our office provides comprehensive contact lens fittings to provide you with a contact lens prescription and is a supplier for most major contact lens manufacturers making our office a one stop shop.  Contact lenses are considered medical devices with varying curvatures and prescriptions.  A fitting for contacts is necessary so your doctor can select the appropriate lens for your eyes while ensuring that your eye health isn’t compromised.  The contact lens fitting can be completed along with your comprehensive eye exam.  It includes training on the insertion and removal of contacts for new wearers, and education on the proper way to care for your new contact lenses.

Dr. Wess M. Jordan and Dr. Andrea C. Radtke are well versed in all of the latest contact lens options including contacts for astigmatism, bifocal/multifocal contacts, daily disposable contacts, and rigid (hard) contacts.  They have completed extensive training in the fitting of contact lenses, and have successfully fit thousands of patients in their careers.  Once your contact lens prescription has been finalized, you will be able to order contacts lenses through our office.  Most contact lenses arrive at our office within a day of ordering them.  If you prefer to have them delivered, your contact lenses can be delivered to your door at no charge with the purchase of a year supply.  Call our office at 702-654-2020 if you have any questions about contact lenses or to schedule an appointment today.

Las Vegas Eye Exams

The doctors at Optic Gallery Summerlin provide a full range of eye care including comprehensive eye examinations.  A comprehensive eye exam includes a measure of your vision (visual acuity), a prescription for glasses, and testing for multiple eye conditions including lazy eye (amblyopia), eye turns (strabismus), color blindness, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration among many others.  The exam includes a dilation of your eyes which provides a more thorough eye exam by allowing the doctor a better view of the internal structures of the eye.  A contact lens fitting may also be performed at your exam if you choose.  Our office offers digital retinal photography, an emerging technology which provides a high definition picture of the retina to allow our doctors to better monitor for changes in your eyes.
